In short
- No account. You never sign up.
- Your notes and practice records are encrypted on your device.
- No ads, and no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs.
- For Steady Deen Plus, Apple and RevenueCat process purchase information, never your notes.
- You can export or delete all your entries, anytime.
This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Steady Deen app on iPhone and this website, steadydeen.com.
Who we are
Steady Deen is published by Atekian, based in Türkiye, the data controller for the personal data described here.
Because Atekian is based in Türkiye, our main legal framework is the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK). For privacy questions, write to privacy@steadydeen.com.
Steady Deen has no account. You never sign up, and the app does not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
Data that stays on your device
Your notes, practice records and preferences are stored encrypted on your iPhone, and we cannot see them.
What the app stores
- Your notes and unsaved drafts
- Your focus, planned days, practice entries and breaks
- Readings you marked as read, saved readings and your progress in guided programs
- Your preferences: language, appearance, topic, hidden topics and explanation length
- Your reminder setting: on or off, time and lock-screen text
- Your dhikr counter, with its optional name and target
- For the qibla: your qibla settings and the city you chose, if any
- Basic app state, such as the day you last opened the app
Encryption and access
This data is kept in an encrypted database on your iPhone. The encryption key is created on your device and stored in the iOS Keychain. The app does not send this data to us, and we have no server that receives it. So we cannot read your entries, and we cannot recover them if your phone is lost or the app is deleted.
Device backups
Depending on your device settings, your iCloud or computer backup may include the app’s encrypted data, and restoring that backup may bring your entries back. These backups are handled by Apple or kept on your own computer. We cannot access or delete them, and the app does not guarantee a backup.
Optional pilot study
The app’s Settings include a “Take part in the pilot study” switch, which is off unless you turn it on. When it is on, the app keeps only counts on your device: the days you opened the app, the days you opened source details, and your optional answer to a short daily question. Your notes, entries and the content you read are not included. Nothing is sent automatically; you can view the summary and share it if you choose. Turning the switch off deletes these counts.
When data leaves your device
This data leaves your iPhone only when you send it yourself, through the iOS share sheet, to the app or person you choose:
- Export creates a text file of your entries. The file is not encrypted, so be careful where you save it.
- Sharing a reading shares only the reading and its source, never your notes or records.
- Reporting a problem shares the problem type, your optional note and technical details: app version, platform, language and, for a content problem, which reading it is. You see the full text before you send it.
Location
Your location is used only for the qibla, only on your device, only while that screen is open, and it is never stored.
If you tap “Use my location” on the Qibla screen, iOS asks for permission to use your location while the app is in use. The app uses it on your device to calculate the qibla direction while that screen is open. It is not stored, and it is not sent to us or anyone else. iOS finds your position through Apple’s Location Services.
You don’t have to share your location: you can choose a city instead, and the app saves only that city.
Reminders
Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone, and we do not send push notifications.
If you turn on the daily reminder, iOS asks for notification permission. The app schedules a local notification on your device at the time you chose, and no server is involved. You can choose the text shown on your lock screen, including the more private “Your moment is ready.”, which does not mention a reading.
Purchases
Apple handles payment, RevenueCat helps us confirm your Steady Deen Plus status with an anonymous ID, and neither receives your notes or records.
Apple
Steady Deen Plus is sold through the App Store. Apple processes your payment and Apple Account details as an independent controller under the Apple Privacy Policy. We never see your card details, name or email address. If you allowed sharing with app developers in your iPhone’s Analytics & Improvements settings, Apple may give us crash reports and aggregated statistics that do not identify you.
RevenueCat
We use RevenueCat, Inc. (United States) to check and restore subscriptions. The app connects to RevenueCat when it needs to know whether you have Plus, for example when you open Settings or the Steady Deen Plus page, even if you never buy anything. RevenueCat then processes:
- an anonymous app user ID it creates, not linked to your name or email address
- your purchase and subscription status and transaction details from the App Store
- technical details such as app and iOS version, App Store country and currency, and your IP address as part of the connection
We use this only to provide and restore Plus, help with purchase problems and keep records the law requires. It is never combined with your notes or practice records. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
When you write to us
If you email us, we use your message only to answer you, and we keep it for up to 12 months after your issue is resolved.
Emails to our steadydeen.com addresses are forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing and stored at Google’s email service, Gmail. We receive your email address, your message and anything you include. Please don’t send your personal notes unless you need to. We don’t add you to any mailing list, and you can ask us to delete your emails earlier. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy and the Google Privacy Policy.
This website
This website has no cookies, no trackers, no analytics scripts and no forms.
steadydeen.com is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site, Cloudflare processes standard request logs, including your IP address. We see only overall traffic numbers, such as visits per page, and we don’t build visitor profiles. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
The site loads no third-party scripts, and its fonts are served from the site itself. It may save your theme choice and language hint in your browser’s local storage. This is not a cookie: it stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell your data, show ads or track you.
- We don’t sell or rent personal data, and we don’t share it for advertising.
- The app has no ads and no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs.
- Your notes, practice and location are never sent to analytics.
- We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and we don’t make automated decisions about you.
Using a faith app can itself say something about your beliefs, so we treat the fact that you use Steady Deen as sensitive.
How long we keep data
Data on your device stays until you delete it, and the little data we hold is kept only as long as needed.
- On your device: until you delete it in Settings › Data management, or delete the app. See Export or delete your data.
- Purchase records at RevenueCat: while needed to provide your subscription, then only as long as accounting, tax or other legal obligations, or a dispute, require.
- Support emails: up to 12 months after your issue is resolved, unless you ask us to delete them earlier.
- Website request logs: for the limited period set by Cloudflare.
We cannot delete files you exported or your device backups. Deleting your data does not cancel Steady Deen Plus; see Steady Deen Plus and subscriptions.
Your rights
Most of your data is already in your hands; for the rest, write to privacy@steadydeen.com.
You can view, export and delete the data on your device yourself. For data we hold, such as purchase records or emails, you can ask what we have, ask for a copy, and ask us to correct or delete it or stop using it. Write to privacy@steadydeen.com. Because we don’t know who you are, we may ask for something that helps us find your record, such as the order ID in your Apple receipt email, and use it only for your request.
Türkiye (KVKK)
We process purchase and subscription records to perform our contract with you, meet legal obligations and establish or defend legal claims (KVKK Article 5(2)(c), (ç) and (e)), and support emails and website logs for our legitimate interest in answering you and keeping the site secure (Article 5(2)(f)). We collect this data electronically: through the app’s purchase system, when you email us and when you visit the website. We share it with the providers named in this policy and with authorities when the law requires.
Under Article 11 of KVKK, you can learn whether your personal data is processed and request information about it; learn the purpose of processing and whether it is used for that purpose; know the third parties in Türkiye or abroad who receive it; ask for incomplete or inaccurate data to be corrected; ask for it to be deleted or destroyed under Article 7; ask that these corrections or deletions be reported to those third parties; object to a result against you that comes only from automated analysis; and claim compensation for damage caused by unlawful processing.
Apply by email to privacy@steadydeen.com. We answer within 30 days at the latest, free of charge unless the Personal Data Protection Board’s tariff allows a fee. If we reject your application, you find our answer insufficient or we don’t answer in time, you can complain to the Personal Data Protection Board within 30 days of our answer, and in any case within 60 days of your application.
EU and UK (GDPR)
If you are in the EU or the UK, the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies. We rely on the performance of a contract to provide Plus, on legal obligations for records we must keep, and on our legitimate interests to answer emails and keep the website secure. You can access, correct and erase your data, restrict or object to its processing, and ask for data portability. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live or work.
California and other US states
We don’t sell or share personal information as California law (CCPA/CPRA) defines these terms, and we don’t use sensitive personal information to infer anything about you. If you live in California or a state with a similar law, you can ask what personal information we hold and ask us to correct or delete it. We won’t treat you differently for doing so.
Children
Steady Deen is not directed to children under 13.
We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal data, for example by email, contact us and we will delete it. The app’s age rating is shown on the App Store.
International transfers
Our service providers are based in the United States, so some data is transferred abroad.
Apple, RevenueCat, Cloudflare and Google are headquartered in the United States and may process data there and elsewhere. This covers only purchase records, emails and website logs; your notes and records do not leave your device. Transfers from Türkiye rely on the safeguards permitted by Article 9 of KVKK, as amended by Law No. 7499 in force since 1 June 2024. For data of users in the EU and the UK, transfers rely on our providers’ standard contractual clauses.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date and version at the top change too.
If the app’s handling of data changes, we update this policy before the app update that makes the change. For important changes, we will also let you know in the app.
